Stomu Yamashita—who emerged in the late 1960s within classical and contemporary music and later became known for rock-oriented performances and collaborations with Steve Winwood, Klaus Schulze, and Michael Shrieve—released this album in 1982 as a continuation of his two-LP set Iroha (Heaven / Earth) issued earlier the same year.
With “water” as its central motif, the work deploys an extensive array of synthesizers and features contributions from Sen Izumi, Takashi Kokubo, Yukitoshi Morishige, and Hiroshi Takashima—many of whom participated on the preceding project. The result is a monumental form of Buddhist-inspired, spectacle-scale meditation music. The liner notes include a text by the writer and Buddhist nun Harumi Setouchi (Jakuchō).
