Following the passing of Ryuichi Sakamoto in April 2023, Micro Ambient Music was released online for a limited period beginning July 13, 2023 (http://microambientmusic.info/). Curated by artist Tomoyoshi Date, the compilation brings together 39 works by 41 domestic and international artists who were directly or indirectly connected to or influenced by Sakamoto. The four-hour compilation later received the 2023 German Record Critics’ Award in the Electronic & Experimental category.
At ICC, the project will be reinterpreted as a three-day ambient music festival, allowing audiences to experience Micro Ambient Music as a live event. Under the direction of Date, the festival will expand the concept through the participation of new artists and by staging performances across three different venues with distinct settings.
