Known to the wider public for creating the Emergency Earthquake Warning alert tone and the time-signal music at Shibuya’s Hachikō Square, and revered internationally as one of Japan’s ambient/environmental music pioneers currently undergoing major global rediscovery, Takashi Kokubo joins forces with Puglia-born, Switzerland-based trombonist and composer Andrea Esperti (Esperti Project) for their latest collaborative album Music For A Cosmic Garden. The album is released on vinyl by Switzerland’s acclaimed label WRWTFWW Records, responsible for celebrated reissues including works by Midori Takada.
Kokubo has long produced music that touches the heart with gentleness and healing resonance. Using his self-made binaural microphone “Cyberphonic,” he records three-dimensional “natural soundscapes” from around the world and integrates them directly into his compositions. Founder of Studio Ion, he has released over twenty albums including the beloved Ion series. His track “A Dream Sails Out to Sea, Scene 3” was also featured on Light In The Attic’s Grammy-nominated compilation Kankyō Ongaku.
A must-have for listeners drawn to environmental music, ambient, cosmic escapism, and meditative atmospheres.
