When one steps away from the urban din and begins to truly listen, another kind of paradise reveals itself. Released in 1996, “Message from the Oasis — At the Edge of Noise” is a poetic audio work in which Kokubo explores the boundary between noise and silence.
The three long-form tracks —
Noise Front I “Good Morning”,
Noise Front II “Good Afternoon”, and
At the Edge of Noise —
trace a sonic landscape that shifts gradually from morning to dusk.
Wind, waves, distant murmurs, and electronic noise slowly weave together, unfolding a journey that drifts between reality and reverie. Rather than eliminating noise, the album seeks to reveal the beauty hidden within it. Layers of synthesizer and field recordings awaken the deeper strata of hearing, generating an internal oasis within the listener.
While drifting along the “edge of noise,” one becomes attuned to the breath of the world. It is a message — a way of recovering the quietness of life through sound.
